ALLEN -Wesley Christian High School senior Stephen Goble has committed to play basketball at Jefferson Davis Community College. A junior college, Jefferson Davis competes in the ACCC (Alabama Community College Conference) South with Alabama Southern, Bishop State, Chattahoochee Valley, Enterprise State, Faulkner State, L.D. Wallace and Wallace State.
Jefferson Davis Community College is located in Brewton, Ala.
The Jefferson Davis basketball program is under the direction of head coach Allen Gainer.
After watching game film of Goble, Gainer offered the Wesley Christian standout a scholarship.
“The chance to play right away was a big factor for me,” Goble said, when asked why he chose Jefferson Davis. “Coach (Gainer) told me with my skill set if I come in and work hard I can play right away. Also, it’s closer to home than all the other schools I’ve been in contact with.”
Goble will continue to work on his game throughhout the offseason.
“I will be working here this summer,” Goble confided. “Also, I’ll be going down to Community Christian and working with Coach Ryan Smith. We have a pretty close relationship.”
“I want to thank my past coaches and teammates - starting at Allen Central Middle School with Brad Short, my two years at Allen Central High School with Coach Mark Martin and my final two years at Wesley Christian with Coach (Jack) Jarrell,” Goble added. “Also, I want to thank my family for supporting me, no matter what my decision.”
Earlier in the year, Goble was selected to play in the Kentucky-Virginia All-Star game.
He also earned KCAA All-State and All-4th Region honors.
