PIKEVILLE – University of Pikeville senior Jamar Briscoe is the Mid-South Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.
The conference weekly award is Briscoe’s third of the season and of his career. Briscoe also earned the award on Nov. 19 and Dec. 17.
Briscoe - who was named the MSC Player of the Year on Thursday - averaged 24 points per game while leading the Bears to a 3-1 week, including reaching the Mid-South Tournament championship game.
The Baltimore, Md., guard eclipsed the 30-point plateau twice last week. Briscoe scored 31 points in an 87-82 win over St. Catharine in the tournament quarterfinals and finished the week with 32 points in the finals in a 77-73 loss to Lindsey Wilson.
For the week, Briscoe shot 37.5 percent from the field, including 38.7 percent from 3-point range. He averaged 3.5 rebounds and 2.3 steals per contest last week.
Briscoe is second in the Mid-South this season averaging 22.6 points per game and leads the conference with an 84.5 percent free throw shooting percentage.
Nationally, Briscoe ranks fourth in scoring and 13th in free throw percentage.
No. 10 Pikeville is 26-6 overall and earned one of the MSC’s two automatic bids into the NAIA National Tournament.
