There will be no elections in Floyd County in 2013, but that layoff will set the stage for a huge slate of races in 2014.
According to County Clerk Chris Waugh, 2013 is the scheduled year where there are no elections to be voted upon in Floyd County. But Waugh says that the lack of races this year is but the calm before next year’s storm.
The May primary will feature elections for all county offices, including judge-executive, jailer, sheriff, magistrates, county clerk, constables, property valuation administrator, and county surveyor. The 2014 slate will also include elections in all city mayor’s races, except for the city of Martin, and several city council races.
Also on the bill for 2014 will be election of the 5th congressional district seat in the House of Representatives as well as Mitch McConnell’s seat in the U.S. Senate.
While filing deadlines for races are still months away, Waugh says at least one potential candidate, current Prestonsburg Mayor Jerry Fannin, has already picked up papers to file in next year’s race for county judge-executive.
