PIKEVILLE – Pikeville senior Trevor Setty is the Mid-South Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.
The MSC weekly honor is Setty’s first this season and second of his career. He also earned the award on Jan.11, 2010.
The Maysville guard finished last week averaging 23.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and two assists per game in home wins over No. 3 Lindsey Wilson and Campbellsville.
Setty was perfect from beyond the three-point arc (3-of-3) and the free throw line (8-of-8) for the No. 17 Bears in their 95-87 win over Lindsey Wilson on Thursday. He ended the game with 23 points, seven rebounds and two assists to help Pikeville pull within two games of the first-place Blue Raiders.
On Saturday, Setty recorded his sixth double-double of the season with 24 points and 10 rebounds in a 77-75 win over Campbellsville. The 24 points marks the fourth straight game and fifth in six games for Setty with at least 20 points.
Setty ended the week with shooting 54.2 percent (13-of-24) from the field, including 57.1 percent (4-of-7) from beyond the three-point arc. Setty was perfect at the free throw line last week making all 17 he attempted.
Setty ranks in the MSC’s top-10 in 12 different statistical categories, including fourth in scoring (19.3) and third in rebounding (7.2). Nationally, Setty is 15th in the NAIA in scoring.
Pikeville improved to 21-5 overall with last week’s wins and is tied for second in the Mid-South with a 12-5 conference record. The Bears head to Ohio for a pair this week, playing Rio Grande on Thursday and Shawnee State on Saturday.
The next men’s basketball player of the week award is scheduled to be announced on Monday, Feb. 25.
