George Randall Steele, age 77, of Prestonsburg, husband of Hope Hampton Steele, whom he married on May 23, 1953, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2013, in the St. Joseph Hospital, in Lexington.
He was born April 11, 1935, at Kenvir, in Harlan County, a son of the late Loney Allen and Hannah Victoria Yeary Steele. He was in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 until 1983, worked for the Department of Defense from 1984 until 2000, served in Vietnam and Desert Storm, and was a CMS (Chief Master Sergeant) with the U.S. Air Force.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, David Randall (Peggy) Steele, of Florence; two daughters, Vicki (Steve) Pack, of Prestonsburg, and Georgina (Gary) Grant, of Spring, Texas; a brother, Lonnie Allen Steele; four grandchildren, Hope Allison Pack, Brittany L. Grant, Gregory M. Grant and Megan C. Grant; and special grandchildren, Madeline Melson and Anna Melson.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Rondall Steele, and three sisters, Lois Ann, Lona Allene Steele and Laura Alice Steele.
Funeral services for George Randall Steele were conducted Monday, Feb. 4, in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, with Elders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints officiating. Entombment followed in Gethsemane Gardens, in Prestonsburg.
