BETSY LAYNE - The Betsy Layne Bobcats returned to the win column on Friday night, defeating 58th District/Floyd County Conference rival South Floyd 66-52.
With the win, Betsy Layne improved to 12-6 overall.
South Floyd slipped to 2-16 overall after suffering the loss.
Betsy Layne defeated South Floyd for the third time this season. After pulling away to win a regular-season matchup 57-34 on Dec. 14, Betsy Layne faced more resistance from the Raiders when the two teams met on Jan. 4 in the 15th Region All “A” Classic. The Raiders pushed Betsy Layne before Bobcats pulled out a 66-64 win in the small-school regional tournament matchup.
In the latest meeting, Betsy Layne hit seven-of-22 3-point field goals en route to the win.
Betsy Layne was 26-of-66 (39.4 percent) from the field in the winning effort.
The Bobcats were seven-of-13 from the free throw line.
Dylan Meade led Betsy Layne with 18 points. Dylan Hamilton and Peyton Case added 14 points apiece for the Bobcats.
Hamilton led Betsy Layne on the boards, hauling in seven rebounds.
Garran Newsome netted eight points and Dalton Meade scored six for the Bobcats.
McKenzie Akers, Dalton Maldonado and Dustin Rogers rounded out the Betsy Layne scoring with two points apiece.
Defensively, Betsy Layne recorded 17 steals and nine deflections.
The Bobcats had 15 assists opposed to 10 turnovers.
In the girls’ game, Betsy Layne rolled to a 61-25 win over South Floyd.
The Betsy Layne boys’ basketball team was hosting Pike County Central on Tuesday night. The Betsy Layne-Pike County Central boys’ game ended too late to make this edition.
