Shular Jackson Hurd, age 80, of Ivel, husband of Rita Boyd Hurd, passed away Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born, Nov. 28, 1932, at Ivel, the son of the late Isom Hurd and Worlie Click Hurd. He was retired from the United States Army, a member of the Victory Baptist Church, the Disabled American Veterans chapter 169, former state commander of Disabled American Veterans, and former Kentucky Veteran of the Year.
In addition to his wife, Shular is survived by a son, Shular Jackson Hurd Jr., of Stanville; two daughters, Cathy (Earl) Hurd- Crank, of Ivel, and Debbie Hurd, of Stanville; a step-son, Charles (Rachel) Hall, of Hurricane; two step-daughters, Tina (John) Freeman, of Salem, W.Va., and Connie (Mitch) Bolden, of Hurricane, W.Va.; three brothers, Graden Hurd, of Warsaw Ind., Don (Cindy) Hurd, of Coffeyville, Kans., and Gary Thomas (Sandy) Hurd, of Warsaw, Ind.; a sister, Mary (James) Spencer, of Morral, Ohio; four grandchildren, Leigh Ann Preston, Brett Preston, Jeremy Click and Cody Click; five step-grandchildren, Chastity (Rusty) Hill, Candace Yates, Tara (Noah) Hall Jondelyn Freeman and Mary Ann Freeman; and one great step-grandchild, Liam Hill.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis Woods Hurd; three brothers, Joe Edd Hurd, Gordon Hurd and Lorenza Hurd; and two sisters, Esta Hurd Freeman and Katherine Hurd Sluss.
Funeral services for Shular Jackson Hurd were conducted Tuesday, Dec. 4, in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, in Martin, with Edgar McKinney officiating. Burial followed in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel.
