PRESTONSBURG - Prestonsburg shook a slow start to defeat non-district foe Pike County Central 41-18 Friday night at Josh Francis Field/Blackcat Stadium.
The Blackcats completed a regular-season sweep against Pike County Central, pulling away to beat the Hawks convincingly.
After scoring first, Pike County Central went through an offensive drought. Prestonsburg moved ahead in the second quarter and never trailed again en route to the win. The Blackcats packed a 20-6 lead into halftime and led 34-12 at the end of the third quarter.
Quick-strike Prestonsburg won despite Pike County Central holding a 26:33-21:27 advantage in time of possession.
Freshman Dalton Frasure delivered two rushing touchdowns in Prestonsburg’s regular-season finale.
Prestonsburg scored via offense, defense and special teams.
Standout senior linebacker Alex Kidd returned an interception for a touchdown.
Excelling on special teams, Prestonsburg’s Bryson Williams returned a punt for a touchdown.
Grant Anderson and Chase Ousley aided the Prestonsburg offensive effort with a rushing touchdown apiece.
In two regular-season meetings, Prestonsburg outscored Pike County Central 124-67.
Prestonsburg will host Middlesboro in the opening round of the Class 2A State Playoffs later in the week. Kickoff for the Prestonsburg-Middlesboro game on Friday, Nov. 2 is set for 7:30 p.m.
