BETSY LAYNE - Betsy Layne concluded the regular-season portion of the 2012 Kentucky high school football season on a three-game winning streak following a 52-16 victory over Jenkins at home on Friday night.
Betsy Layne exited the regular-season 7-3 overall. The Bobcats compiled a 1-2 record in Class 2A, District 8 during the regular-season, notching a win over Shelby Valley and dropping games to Leslie County and eventual champion Prestonsburg. Betsy Layne will visit Danville for the opening round of the Class 2A State Playoffs later in the week.
Much-improved Jenkins ended the regular-season 4-6 overall and 0-3 in Class A, District 6.
The Bobcats secured an early lead and quickly pulled away from Jenkins.
Betsy Layne piled up over 500 yards of total offense en route to the victory over the Cavaliers.
The Bobcats rushed for 296 yards. On Betsy Layne’s Senior Night, senior Tony DiRico rushed five times for 110 yards and three touchdowns.
Houston Hall ranked as Betsy Layne’s second-leading rusher. Hall rushed four times for 105 yards.
Quarterback Dylan Hamilton, Josh Salisbury and Zach Tackett each had one rushing touchdown for the Bobcats. Salisbury rushed a team-high six times for 70 yards and the one score.
Hamilton completed 10-of-13 passes for 204 yards and one touchdown.
Dustin Rogers led Betsy Layne in receiving, hauling in five catches for 100 yards and the team’s lone score via the air.
Blake Spencer, Peyton Case and Zach Bowens combined to reel in 10 receptions for 134 yards.
Rogers led the Betsy Layne defense with three interceptions for 100 return yards and one touchdown.
Spencer registered a game-high 11 tackles for the Bobcats.
In 10 regular-season games, Betsy Layne outscored opponents 363-202.
The Bobcats, under the direction of veteran head coach Jonathan Parsons, compiled two separate three-game win streaks during the regular-season.
