HAZARD - Prestonsburg (4-2) will visit reigning Class A state champion Hazard (1-3) Friday night for a highly-anticipated non-district matchup.
Prestonsburg has claimed back-to-back wins. The Blackcats boast wins over Betsy Layne, Pike County Central, Sheldon Clark and Perry County Central. Prestonsburg has dropped games to Belfry and Lawrence County.
Prestonsburg sophomore quarterback Jarredd Jarrell is closing in on 2,000 yards. The productive Jarrell has completed 86-of-147 passes for 1,920 yards and 17 touchdowns. In nearly 150 pass attempts, Jarrell has only thrown five interceptions.
Two Prestonsburg receivers are on pace to reach 1,000 yards in the regular-season. Grant Anderson leads Prestonsburg in receiving. Anderson has hauled in 34 catches for 747 yards and seven touchdowns.
Bryson Williams has caught 22 passes for 632 yards and eight touchdowns for the Blackcats.
Jarrell also leads Prestonsburg in rushing. The first-year starting quarterback has taken 86 carries for 413 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Freshman Dalton Frasure ranks second in rushing for the Blackcats. Frasure has picked up 180 yards and scored four touchdowns via 35 rush attempts.
Defensively, Adam Griffith leads Prestonsburg with 68 total tackles. Cody Jarrell (47 tackles), Aaron Griffith (46 tackles) and Seth Marcum (45 tackles) are other leading tacklers for the Blackcats.
Jarrell has a team-best three interceptions for the Prestonsburg football team.
Hazard has suffered three straight losses, falling to Breathitt County, Lexington Christian and Somerset. The Bulldogs beat Clintwood, Va. in a season-opener.
Hazard quarterback Evan Whitaker has completed 48-of-98 passes for 742 yards and three touchdowns. Whitaker has thrown five interceptions thus far.
Jordan Olinger and Austin Johnson Johnson have combined to catch 35 passes for over 500 yards.
Brandon Jones leads Hazard on the ground. Jones has rushed 45 times for 261 yards and one touchdown.
Austin Johnson leads the Hazard defense with a team-high 44 tackles.
Opponents have outscored Hazard 76-59.
Kickoff for the Prestonsburg-Hazard game is set for 7:30 p.m.
