PIKEVILLE – The University of Pikeville men’s bowling team opened the 2012-13 season with a sixth-place finish in the UNOH Racer Classic in Lima, Ohio.
The Bears were sixth in a field of 13 teams in the varsity division, while two junior varsity teams finished fourth and 11th in their tournament.
The UPIKE varsity team finished with a score of 9607. The tournament was won by Kansas University, which knocked off Morehead State in the finals 204-193 and 222-213.
Five Bears finished in the Top 50 among individual bowlers, led by senior Brian Whicker of Rockford, Ill., who was 20th with an average of 217.83. John Bartosiewicz Jr. of Sewell, N.J., was 23rd, averaging 217.50.
Senior Kyle KcInerney of Davison, Mich., was 26th among individuals with an average of 216.17, followed by Zachary Fylling, a freshman from Bay City, Mich., who averaged 209.67 in his first collegiate tournament to finish 39th.
Anthony Scerati, a sophomore from Mount Laurel, N.J., came in 46th, averaging 207.40.
The Bears will return to action this weekend, playing in the Green River Classic at Campbellsville.
