Students arriving at two Floyd County schools will find new principals waiting to greet them this week.

Superintendent Henry Webb announced the appointment of two new principals, Greta Thornsberry and Wesley Halbert, who have been selected as principals at May Valley Elementary and Allen Central Middle School, respectively.

“Ms. Thornsberry has been part of the administrative staff at May Valley Elementary for years and has been an integral part of the success they have experienced, being the number-one elementary in the state for five consecutive years,” said Webb. “We expect Ms. Thornsberry to show continued success in her new role.

Webb also welcomed Wesley Halbert back to Floyd County Schools. “Mr. Halbert brings administrative experience in another district as he returns to Floyd County Schools, and we look forward to working with him in this role.”

Webb also announced this week that Bonita Compton has been selected as Director of Transportation. “We are confident that Ms. Compton will bring the same passion and enthusiasm to the transportation department as she has shown in the area of attendance and we look forward to working with her in transportation.”

Thornsberry, former assistant principal of May Valley Elementary, has worked in education for over 20 years as a teacher, counselor, assistant principal and a principal.

Halbert, former principal of Hindman Elementary, has been an educator for over 15 years, with part of his career in Floyd County Schools.

Compton, former Director of Pupil Personnel, has worked in administration for several years and has been in education almost 30 years.

“The board team and I welcome these team members and look forward to working with these individuals,” said Webb.
