PRESTONSBURG — A new local business is seasoning the local dining scene with a little taste of Italy.
Owners P.D. Pelphrey and Kristen Greer opened Mia Italiano on April 25 to an excited customer base looking for some variety. Located next to Cato in the Glyn View Plaza, Mia Italiano is decorated beautifully by local artist Tina Butcher, bringing an authentic Tuscan ambiance to your experience.
“We wanted everything to be perfect,” Greer said of the restaurant project. “From the color on the walls to the color in the murals, and in the furniture we wanted a cohesive theme for the restaurant. We wanted it be like when customers walk in that they are out into Tuscany.”
The owners say that almost all the food on the menu is homemade. Many of the recipes are Greer’s and are prepared by her talented kitchen staff.
“We are just hoping to build a successful business,” Greer said. “I’ve been cooking since I was 9, and this is just a dream come true.”
Mia Italiano’s menu includes many classic Italian dishes, including spaghetti and fettuccine with marinara, alfredo or meat sauce. Chicken, meatballs and shrimp are also available additions to the pasta dishes. The owners say, if you simply can’t decide what to order, the Tuscan Sampler platter offers a little bit of everything.
Greer says that her customers so far have given the restaurant a thumbs up, and that one patron told her, “It’s not dinner, it’s an experience.”
The restaurant also serves up many famous deserts including white chocolate raspberry cheesecake and ice cream sundaes to traditional cannolis and tiramisu.
The new restaurant also offers its customers free wireless internet access.
