PRESTONSBURG — A local Democratic Women’s Club is trying to make life a little sunnier for some children going through the emotionally charged processes of family court.
A donation of homemade teddy bears was made earlier this week to children going through the foster and adoption process by the Floyd County Democratic Women’s club. Members Sally Allen and Lillian Baldridge delivered the bears this week.
“We were told there was a need, and that this was something we could do to help the children,” said Sally Allen, acting president of the Democratic Women’s Club in Floyd County.
According to Allen, the Democratic Women’s Club of Floyd County has routinely donated the teddy bears for nearly eight years. The bears are made of material donated by members of the club.
“They give the children the bears when they go through adoption, or foster process, just so they will have something that belongs to them.”
Family Court Judge Dwight Stacey Marshall was present Tuesday to receive the gift. Marshall said that the gift was just in time, as they were running low on bears following a number of recent adoptions.
